How I Found Out That My Daughter Was About to Date a Sex Offender

Forget the snotty complaint of “Mom, you are spying on me”. That is utter nonsense and if you think spying on your child is not cool, well, we will see how cool you will be when she ends up on the slab, as cold as a piece of mutton, or in some hospital, violated and abused. It is with this knowledge and fear that I use a free background checks online to find out whom she was chatting with, what she was chatting about and so on. If you live under my roof, you go by my rules.

Mothers always have a sixth sense that they cannot afford to ignore. Most of the times, the instinct is usually true. On this particular day, my daughter invited a man over for dinner in the name of ‘he is just a friend’, but deep down my soul I knew something was happening. As we talked over a meal, I sensed something was wrong. I did not know what that was but the feeling was weird, and it would not go away no matter how hard I tried to suppress it.

So I decided to find out what the man was hiding by using a find name from phone number. My guts were right; he was a sex offender. I had to stop my daughter from dating this man.

Here is how I found out the truth:

1.      Sex offender records

I cannot allow my daughter to date a sex offender for whatever reason. I do not know why my heart led me into using delving into these records but I had to. Using the name of the man my daughter had invited home, I typed it into the sex offender records and accessed all the information I needed.

These records also allowed me to see offenders in a given proximity since the exact addresses, counties and mapping are provided. Searching for information with the public records search engine is that precise. I did not have to look at so much data that could tire me. With the address of where the man lived, I found out that he was in the record of sex offenders in that neighborhood.

I found out about the sex offense he had committed amongst rape, statutory rape, sexual abuse, child sexual abuse and child pornography. I did not like the truth, no one does, but I had to accept the fact that behind that humble, happy character, the man was not good enough for my daughter.

I also found a photograph of him and it resembled the man I had seen earlier over dinner. These records are rated using numbers, the higher the number the more likely that the individual will reoffend. I did not want my daughter to be the victim.

2.      Jail and inmates’ records

After finding that the man my daughter brought home was a sex offender, I had to know whether he went to jail and for how long. Again, using a criminal background search, I found out his imprisonment date, the date of his release, the type of offense he had committed and his photo. This way I knew how long he was in jail. This confirmed the facts that I had obtained in the sex offender register.

The search for inmates is also narrowed down to finding information using a town or state name and the category (US federal and national college campus crime).

The information I found out about the man my daughter had such strong feelings for made it hard for me to tell her. In as much as it was a painful experience, she came to terms with it at the end of it all, after I showed her the evidence.
